Twenty One Pilots’ Management Discusses VER’s Support of Emotional Roadshow Tour with Light & Sound America
Twenty One Pilots Production/Lighting Designer Daniel Slezinger of Concert Investor recently sat down with Light & Sound America to discuss the Emotional Roadshow Tour. The tour faced the challenge of having a lighting design that needed to look big in venues and arenas, while also fitting within a small bus trailer.
“Tyler Joseph [lead singer of Twenty One Pilots] told us he wanted to be engulfed by video,” commented Slezinger. During a meeting with VER Nashville’s Michael Drew the idea of placing the LED and lighting inside six compact carts could reduce space; something Drew designed previously with the help of Accurate Staging for Little Big Town. The full video and lighting rig included a 48′-wide by 16′-high 9mm WinVision LED wall, as well as four Pointes, six Nitro 510C, six CuePix WW2 and two B-EYEs attached to each cut-out.
When it came to Audio, Front-House engineer Shane Baradiau collaborated with VER’s Kenny Sellars to support a Meyer Lyon PA, controlled by a DigiCo SD5. “Shane and I work closely to create the sound of the show,” Sellars says. “He knows the music and the big picture, whereas I focus on the little things. I may mention the bass isn’t translating well in the room and ask for a specific frequency to be taken out. This allows Shane to push and pull, creating a dynamic show, while I fine-tune the edges. It’s all about working together to understand the sound and the room as a whole.”
Daneil Slezinger added “Brent Dannen, executive director, audio, at VER, has been a great audio partner of Concert Investor, helping make sure the sound gear and crew is solid. Tony Macre, who runs VER Nashville, has played a key role since the beginning, helping us scale all production from clubs to arenas.”
